Who's the new mayor of Jackson? We won't know until after next month's runoff
CLINTON — A Jackson man temporarily filling in as his town's mayor after the death of a six-term incumbent will face a runoff in his quest to serve through the end of 2028.
Dane Brown, the stand-in mayor, finished second in balloting Tuesday, according to complete but unofficial returns. Democrat Rafe Stewart led all candidates with 41 percent of the vote, while Brown had 33 percent. David Guillory and Linda Fontenot-Karam split the remaining votes.
Stewart and Brown advanced to a Dec. 12 runoff.
Brown and Guillory ran without party affiliation. Fontenot-Karam ran as a Republican.
Jimmy Norsworthy was in his sixth term as mayor after winning re-election in 2024. He served 16 years from 1979 to 1995, then was elected as mayor again in 2020. He died during his sixth term and Brown was selected to serve temporarily.
Also in balloting Tuesday, Jackson town trustees Debbie Allen Norsworthy and James "Bubba" McCrory were re-elected over Kevin Rome and Whit Vidrine.
