Wednesday PM Forecast: Staying pleasant for now, Isaias targeting the northern Gulf Coast
Pleasant weather will hold on for the next day or so. Mornings will be relatively cooler, followed by warm and sun-filled afternoons. By Friday and Saturday, a few showers might clip the area as soon-to-be Hurricane Isaias approaches the Central Gulf Coast. Confidence is growing that the most significant impacts will lie east of the local area.
Tonight & Tomorrow: Following a pleasant Wednesday filled with sunshine, mostly clear skies will persist into Thursday morning. Look for a morning low in the mid-to-upper 60s, which actually runs several degrees above average for the time of year. Thursday brings more of the same: plenty of sunshine with highs reaching the low 90s.
Up Next: With the track of Isaias trending farther to the east, rain coverage remains on the low end of the spectrum into Friday and Saturday. A handful of showers cannot be ruled out Friday, though the best chance for a passing shower comes Friday night and early Saturday once Isaias makes landfall to the east. Rain will taper off through Saturday as Isaias moves inland, pulling drier air into the area as it moves away.
Cooler air will also accompany the drying conditions, with highs only in the low 80s on Saturday. This will set up a seasonably cool start in the low 60s on Sunday. While Sunday and Monday look dry and comfortable, humidity will creep higher by the middle of next week with highs returning to the 90s.

The Tropics: Tropical Storm Isaias rapidly gained strength throughout the course of the day on Wednesday. Large-scale steering currents will steer the storm northward as it intensifies, taking the storm right toward the coasts of Alabama and Florida. Thanks to very warm ocean waters, high moisture, and favorable upper-level winds, the storm could become a Category 2 hurricane by Friday. That said, increasing wind shear near landfall might slow its winds down slightly before it hits the coast. Confidence is growing that the most significant impacts will remain east of the local area, though anyone with weekend travel plans to nearby beaches may want to consider alternative arrangements.
