CENTRAL - Fire crews responded to a fatal single-vehicle crash where a vehicle hit a home early Saturday morning, according to the Central Fire Department.

Firefighters responded to a fatal single-vehicle crash at Blackwater Road and Monhegan Avenue around 2:30 a.m.

According to state police, the crash occurred as the driver was traveling northbound on LA 410 in a 2005 Chevrolet pickup.  For reasons still under investigation, the driver ran off the left side of the roadway and crashed into a house in the 10000 block of Blackwater Rd.

The driver of the pickup was later identified as 39-year-old James Baggett of Brandon, Miss, according to State Police.

The driver was not wearing his seat belt and sustained fatal injuries in the crash. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

CFD says the crash caused serious damage. No one inside the home was injured during the crash. Officials with Red Cross were called to the scene to offer help to the displaced homeowners.

Police say impairment is suspected to be a factor in the crash. A toxicology sample is being taken for analysis.
