BATON ROUGE — Governor Jeff Landry spoke Thursday on Fox News about the SEC delaying its vote to expel LSU from the conference.

Landry called the situation "ridiculous," saying college sports fans care more about the product on the field than "what goes on in the court room."

"The SEC sued us. It's dangerous for Greg Sankey and them to continue, because the SEC is not a true organization in a legal sense, it's not a corporation, it's not an LLC."

Landry said that 15 of the 16 universities are public universities, arguing that those universities did not get First Amendment rights. He also argued that although the SEC could have expelled LSU from the conference, it would've been "extremely complicated" due to media rights deals and with NIL looming over the college sports landscape.

When asked why LSU did not roster two fifth-year players despite the school "not doing anything wrong," Landry said there was an extreme back-and-forth due to the NCAA implementing a five-for-five rule; Landry argued that the implementation of this rule prevented members of the Class of 2022 from properly considering their future in college sports, as they believed they were out of eligibility.

Landry called the issue "stupid," saying it's "time to play football." When asked about the SEC's suit claiming that LSU recruited professional athletes with NFL contracts and how the situation would develop in the future, Landry said it is "in the SEC's hands right now."

"LSU did not create the litigation in Louisiana. LSU did not create the litigation in Alabama. The SEC did. The SEC tries to villainize LSU.”
