BAKER — An 18-year-old girl died following a shooting near East Myrtle Avenue late Friday night.

The victim was identified as 18-year-old Anireeyah Brue, according to the East Baton Rouge Coroner's Office.

Officers with the Baker Police Department said the shooting occurred around 11:45 p.m. when officers found Brue suffering from a gunshot wound. Brue was transported to a local hospital, where she later died from her injuries. 

Investigators said that no motive has been established at this time. The investigation remains ongoing.

Brue's loved ones said she was a leader in the family.

"Every time she came in the room, it lit up. She was such an outgoing young lady," Brue's grandmother, Avera Burton said.

Her grandmother says Brue recently graduated from high school, and wanted to one day open a hair salon. Burton added that Brue's mother and her two siblings will miss her deeply.

No funeral arrangements have been announced yet.
