BATON ROUGE- Numbers show that one of the busiest interstates in South Louisiana is also one of the deadliest in the country.

According to a study by Teletrac Navman, I-10 is ranked the sixth deadliest highway in the U.S. when it comes to death per mile. Data shows that 1,730 people have been killed on this stretch of road between 2011 and 2015.

Interstate 10 stretches all the way from Santa Monica, California to Jacksonville, Florida, a total of 2,460 miles long. At more than 1,700 deaths, the roadway averaged 0.703 deaths per mile in the span of five years.

WBRZ has extensively covered deadly crashes on the roadway throughout the Baton Rouge area, including one which killed a 5-year-old boy. One local law enforcement official lamented the constant crashes, going as far as to call the stretch near LA 415 the "Devil's Triangle".
