BATON ROUGE — Southern University is increasing security measures for homecoming week ahead of Saturday. 

The university is deploying additional law enforcement officers and security personnel throughout all homecoming events and activities. Southern University is a weapon-free and drug-free zone.

Campus access points will remain open, but all gates except the Mill Street Gate will stay open only until homecoming activities have concluded for that day.

Emergency Blue Box Call Stations are available at 11 locations across campus, including the Tarver Center, Student Pavilion, Mini Dome east and west sides, Building 300, Totty Hall, White Hall, Library, Student Union, Law School parking lot and Stadium parking lot.

Attendees are encouraged to travel in groups when possible and to report any crime, suspicious behavior or safety concern immediately. Anonymous reports can be submitted through the Jag Safe App.

City-parish officials, university leadership, Baton Rouge Police Department and public safety are coordinating to make sure homecoming weekend is safe and enjoyable.

Multiple law enforcement agencies will be present for the remainder of the week, including at the homecoming game. Authorities are also placing cameras and license plate readers on and near campus.

Police say the cameras are strategically placed to keep the perimeter under surveillance and to help gather evidence if a crime happens.

The homecoming game is Saturday at 6 p.m. against Arkansas Pine Bluff in A.W. Mumford Stadium.
