BATON ROUGE — GolfSuites is a Baton Rouge spot that combines a driving range with a sports bar, giving guests more than just a place to hit golf balls.

Jacob Rhodes, who runs the facility, said the concept covers a lot of ground.

"GolfSuites is a driving range, but it's also a sports bar, so it's a place to come hit golf balls and practice and work on your game but also have a fun date night and play virtual courses and everything like that," Rhodes said.

Inside each bay, guests can choose their own experience. Options include range practice, course play, or a "map my bag" feature that works like a personal caddy.

The technology built into every swing is part of what draws people in.

"They got the TrackMan data that shows you all of your data, your ball speed, your distance, your curve angles, your launch direction," said Virgil Barton. "All of that data is very important, and then the atmosphere, the waitstaff here is fantastic."

The experience is designed for all skill levels. "I have everywhere from pro golfers that come here to people that their first time picking up a glove is at my facility," Rhodes said.

Rhodes said the game has broad appeal. "It's a great game to be with buddies, but also play by yourself it's a game for everyone," he said.

Beyond the bays, guests can also throw darts and use the pool tables at no cost while waiting.

The menu includes burgers, wings, a chicken Caesar wrap and pizza. "Oh my god, we tell everybody about it, the food is magnificent," said Carole Erby. "We come like 3 hours a day."

Erby said she and her group discovered the place after noticing it from the interstate. "We kept seeing this place on the interstate, so I said, let's just go there one day, so we've been coming like 4-5 times a week," she said. "For like 2 or 3 hours a day since last October."

Guests can also bring their dogs.

"You can bring your family here, your dog here, you know we got dog bowls for whenever they need water or anything like that," Rhodes said.
