One killed, two injured in shooting involving security guard at hookah lounge
BATON ROUGE - A 40-year-old Baton Rouge man was shot and killed by a security officer following a fight at a hookah lounge early Saturday morning.
According to Baton Rouge Police, the shooting occurred around 2:40 a.m. in the 8400 block of Florida Blvd. at The Hookah Lounge.
Detectives say a group of people were escorted out of the lounge by security officers after being involved in a fight.
Derrick Johnson reportedly pulled out a handgun and attempted to re-enter the lounge, according to police.
Johnson threatened the security officers with the gun when they attempted to stop him. Police say Johnson was then shot multiple times by one of the security officers. He died at the scene.
Police say two other people were struck by a ricochet and/or shrapnel from the gunfire and were transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
