HOUMA - A man was shot and killed by a Houma police officer after reportedly charging at law enforcement with a screwdriver.

State Police said the Houma Police Department was called to a disturbance near Downtown Court where officers found 36-year-old Houma resident Johnny McGee armed with a screwdriver.

Troopers said McGee was commanded to stop charging at the officer and he continued forward. Police said McGee allegedly raised his arm, with the screw-driver in hand, and moved toward the officer shortly before the officer shot the man.

McGee was taken to a hospital where he died from his injuries.

No more details were immediately available.
