BATON ROUGE — A house on North Afton Parkway in the Melrose Place neighborhood in Baton Rouge could be going on the market soon, according to various online real estate marketplaces. But neighbors tell 2 On Your Side that what's being shown online isn't exactly what they see in person.

From the street, the blue house with a bright yellow door might catch your eye. It didn't take long for David West to notice.

"A month after I moved in," said West.

That was six years ago. Over those years, West, who is now the Melrose Place Civic Association President, says he's seen an inconsistent pattern of contractors coming and going from the property. Lately, it's been quiet.

"I don't think I've seen any work done in the last year," said West.

Clayton Weeks lives in the neighborhood, too. He is a home inspector.

"The house is not level; they're doing lipstick on this house," said Weeks.

On the outside, the grass is overgrown, and construction debris rests in the driveway. Weeks pointed out several other areas of the house that might be an issue.

"There's wood rot all over the outside of this house," he said.

Even so, West says it has potential and wants what is best for the property.

"It's a beautiful property if it's dealt with in a conscientious way," said West.

Recently, the house appeared online as a "coming soon" for sale listing. The photo of the property appears to be an AI-generated image portraying a slightly different house and front yard. The five-bedroom, three-bath house could be listed for $319,000.

"It was an AI-generated picture of something that is so aspirational and so far-fetched as the current condition that it made me concerned," said West.

The house is owned by E&E Preferred Properties LLC. The registered business agent did not come to the door when 2 On Your Side went to the address listed for them on the Secretary of State's website.

West and Weeks say the house hasn't been lived in for many years.

"It's setting a false expectation," said West.

The city says it has responded to various calls for service, mainly junk, trash and debris. A remodeling permit applied for in 2021 has since expired. The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office says that the 2025 property taxes were not paid. The taxes were sold to a tax lien purchaser at the tax lien auction in July 2026.

A realtor told WBRZ that she is aware of the AI and tax situation. She said that the seller is trying to get the building sold to someone who will finish the repair job.
