BATON ROUGE – Police say the motorcycle officer hurt in a crash on Airline Highway Wednesday is expected to fully recover.

Baton Rouge Police Sgt. L’Jean McKneely says the officer is in moderate condition with a broken leg and other minor injuries.

The crash happened just before 2 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Beechwood Street and Airline Highway. Police later said the officer lost control of his vehicle after running over an “imperfection” in the roadway.

According to DOTD, there is a $7 million maintenance overlay project will begin later this year for Airline Highway between the Old Mississippi River Bridge and Greenwell Street. The project will include pavement patching, guardrail replacement and new asphalt.
