Man shot in Plaquemine died in hospital overnight; 3 suspects arrested in Alabama
PLAQUEMINE - A man died in the hospital overnight after being shot in the head Tuesday afternoon and three suspects were arrested in Alabama Wednesday.
According to the Plaquemine Police Department, 29-year-old Mario Walker was shot near the corner of WW Harleaux Street and Calvin Street.
Officials said Alabama State Police pulled over the three suspects, 30-year-old Jaymetrice Provo, 28-year-old Jontrell Wilson and 26-year-old Jayln Smith, outside of Mobile for an expired tag.
The trio were arrested by Troopers and will be held in Alabama until they are extradited to Louisiana.
According to the charges, Provo fired the shot that killed Walker. Officers said Smith drove the other two away from the crime scene and was behind the wheel when the group was pulled over in Alabama.
Provo is booked with second-degree murder and possession of a weapon by a felon. Wilson was charged with principal to second-degree murder and possession of a weapon by a felon. Smith was charged with accessory to second-degree murder.
The three were also charged with possession of marijuana.
