Man charged with murder after Hooper Road shooting
BATON ROUGE – Police say a man turned himself in after fatally shooting a woman at a Baton Rouge apartment Sunday night.
Courtland Owens was charged with second-degree murder and illegal use of a weapon. He was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison Monday morning.
Baton Rouge Police believe that Owens was involved in an argument with Brandi Ayers, 24, just moments before the shooting. According to the affidavit of probable cause, a witness saw Owens holding a firearm and calling police before fleeing the scene.
Owens turned himself in at the BRPD Fourth District precinct. He also handed over a gun that was the same caliber as the one used in the shooting. The gun was also loaded with 12 out of 13 possible rounds and had blood on the grip.
