Livingston Parish Library offers free legal help through Lawyers in Libraries event
LIVINGSTON — Residents in Livingston Parish were given the opportunity to discuss their legal concerns with licensed attorneys at no cost on Monday at the Lawyers in Libraries event at the Livingston Parish Library's Main Branch.
The statewide program connects the public with attorneys through local libraries as a partnership between the Louisiana State Bar Association, the State Library of Louisiana and the Louisiana Library Association.
Attorneys at the event answered questions on a wide range of civil legal topics including bankruptcy, civil lawsuits, collection matters, custody, divorce, evictions, disaster benefits, housing, Medicaid and more.
"They have lawyers volunteer to come listen to people for about 15 minutes at a time, and try to give them some legal advice on where to go... and give them an idea how to handle their case," said attorney Steven James Farber.
