LIVINGSTON — The Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office released a warning about potential scammers targeting family members of the incarcerated.

"We have received multiple calls from residents who report being contacted by 'Deputies' in reference to their loved ones housed at our Livingston Parish Detention Center," Livingston Parish Sheriff Jason Ard said on Monday.

According to Sheriff Ard, the caller states that their loved ones will be released if they pay a monitoring fee for an ankle monitor, with some of the calls happening within hours of a person's arrest.

Deputies with the sheriff's office advise residents to hang up and contact the sheriff's office immediately if they are contacted, as no law enforcement agency will contact a person and ask for money in this manner.

Anyone who falls victim to this scam should contact the Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office Financial Crimes Division.
