BATON ROUGE — The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries added 23 game wardens to its ranks Wednesday morning at the 38th law enforcement academy graduation. 

Gov. Jeff Landry attended the graduation ceremony at the Church of the King in Baton Rouge. 

The new agents will enforce hunting, fishing and boating rules across the state and are trained for search and rescue, as well as maritime security missions.

"Louisiana game wardens are unique in that we're tasked with two very distinct missions: one of conservation law enforcement, as well as one of public safety. Both of those missions are of equal importance," LDWF Captain Ryan Faul said.

The agency says that it will host open house events over the next few weeks across the state for those interested in becoming a warden.
