Tropical Storm Isaias now has max sustained winds of 45 mph with a movement ENE at 8 mph. The latest 10 AM advisory shows another shift east of the forecast cone. This is good news for southeast Louisiana as it means the risk of local impacts are decreasing.

Full Discussion:

Tropical Storm Isaias is growing stronger and better organized as it moves east-northeast at about 8 mph, with top winds currently around 45 mph. Large scale weather patterns are expected to turn the storm northward and speed it up, bringing a larger, faster-moving Isaias toward the northern Gulf Coast by Friday afternoon and evening. Thanks to very warm ocean waters, high moisture, and favorable upper-level winds, the storm could strengthen rapidly over the next day or two, though increasing wind shear near landfall might slow its winds down slightly before it hits the coast. There is still some disagreement in model guidance on the exact track and intensity. It is worth noting that a lot of the stronger scenarios place the storm further east, with a weaker storm further west.

Local Impacts:

As of this time, impacts for the Capital Area are continuing to trend lower and lower. A direct impact is highly unlikely at this point. The most likely scenario is some increased rain chances Friday and Saturday with breezy conditions at times. Given there is still some wiggle room in the track, our exact impacts are yet to be determined. Continue to check back often for new information.
