JEANERETTE — Russell Picard Jr., 40, of Jeanerette, was arrested on Friday on three warrants for a slew of charges related to the accused attempted sexual assault of a juvenile over the summer. 

Picard was arrested on the following charges: attempted second degree rape, molestation of a juvenile, indecent behavior with a juvenile, criminal trespass, theft and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. 

In late June, local authorities responded to a complaint of a possible sexual assault involving a juvenile. The investigation was transferred to SMPSO's Criminal Investigations Division.

Through the investigation, detectives obtained evidence that Picard had indeed touched the juvenile in an inappropriate manner and the evidence was submitted to a judge. A warrant was obtained for the charges of attempted second degree rape, molestation of a juvenile and indecent behavior with juveniles.

On Thursday, the Jeanerette Police Department made contact with Picard and arrested him on the warrant as well as two other SMPSO warrants. Picard was transferred to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking on Friday, where bail was set at $495,000.

The investigation is ongoing.
