BATON ROUGE - A woman was killed by a stray bullet after a confrontation involving a group of juveniles led to gunfire in a neighborhood off Plank Road Thursday afternoon.

The Baton Rouge Police Department said the the shooting happened around 4 p.m. on Cadillac Street near Blue Grass Drive. Police identified the victim as 36-year-old Dolores Jackson.

"It was a horrific scene. The lady was lying face up, her face was bloody, and her son was running around," a resident of a nearby apartment complex said.

According to a department spokesperson, Jackson was not involved in the dispute and was not the intended target of the shooting.

"I just said, 'No, not D. Not Big girl,' and I came," Jackson's neighbor Jacquelyn Payne said.  "You couldn't get in, and I stood right there. I said, 'Oh, Lord, not D.' That little boy is going to miss his mother."

Officers have not identified a suspect in the killing as of Thursday afternoon.
