GOHSEP raises alert level, monitoring flooding
BATON ROUGE - The Governor's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness raised it's alert level Wednesday evening.
They are operating around the clock monitoring the flooding situation in North Louisiana.
Governor Edwards is expected to meet with GOHSEP employees tomorrow to discuss the flooding and the impending severe weather in the rest of the state.
The higher alert level means resources are ready and will be able to move to areas effected by historic flooding. Deputy Director of GOHSEP, Chris Guilbeaux said they will be monitoring the flooding, and making sure the state is safe.
"For the most part, those who were in harms way have been taken out of harms way either by high water vehicle or by boat. We expect there could be some more tonight and the water rises and the rain shifts to the east. We will be getting a full briefing from the National Weather Service tomorrow, both from Shreveport and from Slidell. As you know, this weather system is going to eventually get to the entire state as it moves to the east. We are going to get that forecast tomorrow and see if we need to start shifting some assets a little further to the south and a little further to the east," said Guilbeaux.
We will keep you updated through the storm as it rolls through the area.
