UPDATE: Authorities identify person killed in crash on I-10 in Gramercy

GRAMERCY - A deadly two-vehicle crash closed off a portion of I-10 in St. James Parish Monday morning.
The accident was reported shortly before noon Monday. According to DOTD, westbound lanes of the interstate were shut down near the Gramercy exit.
State police confirmed that one person was killed in the crash. Jason Georgi, 38, of Metairie was arrested for his role in the crash.
Through the initial investigation, State Police determined Georgi was traveling westbound on I-10 in a 2016 Hino box truck. Westbound traffic on I-10 began to slow and Georgi’s vehicle struck the rear of a 2013 Chevrolet Cruze.
The driver of the Chevrolet Cruze sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. James Parish Coroner’s Office. The passenger in the Chevrolet Cruze was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries. Georgi was not injured.

Georgi was booked into the St. James Parish Prison for one count of negligent homicide, one count of negligent injuring and one count of following too close.
All westbound lanes on I-10 near Gramercy were reopened Monday around 3:10 p.m. following the fatal crash.
