ST. GABRIEL — An Elayn Hunt Correctional Center sergeant was fired and arrested for allegedly throwing a restrained inmate to the floor, Iberville Parish Sheriff Brett Stassi said Tuesday.

The Louisiana Department of Corrections announced that Sgt. Christian Cangelosi, a correctional officer at the facility, is charged with malfeasance in office and second-degree battery.

The DOC said Cangelosi was an employee from June 12 until his arrest. 

The Iberville Parish Sheriff's Office has taken over the investigation. 

According to WBRZ records, Cangelosi is the 14th correctional officer at Elayn Hunt to be arrested since the beginning of 2026.
