ZACHARY - Two people were arrested in Zachary after a man died from a gunshot wound to the chest.

Derrick Wayne Coates Jr., 20, of Zachary was shot in the chest, and later died at the hospital as a result of his injuries, according to the East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office.

According to a spokesperson for the sheriff’s office, the Coates was found walking down the side of Ligon Road by a passing driver.

Investigators had to back track the path the man took, to the home where they believe the shooting happened. Crime scene tape is roping off that scene in the 500 block of Flanacher Road.

Reggie Jackson, 21, of 475 E. Flonacher and a 13-year-old juvenile were arrested.

The juvenile is charged with Negligent Homicide and Illegal Use of a Weapon.

Jackson was arrested after deputies found large quantities of marijuana and crack cocaine in the common areas of the residence. They were executing a search warrant at the home.

Jackson is charged with Distribution and Manufacturing of Schedule I Drugs and Distribution and Manufacturing of Schedule II Drugs.
