BATON ROUGE — An alleged thief and forger stole $10,000 from a 67-year-old woman after opening multiple bank accounts using her stolen identity, East Baton Rouge Parish deputies said.

Deputies said that, on June 10, the 67-year-old Baton Rouge resident filed an identity theft complaint after $10,000 was in the process of being withdrawn from her Regions Bank account. She also received a text from AT&T asking her if she approved an eSIM swap for her phone.

Shortly after, her phone became inactive, and the funds were removed from her account, as noted in arrest records. 

Deputies later observed surveillance footage of the unauthorized withdrawal from the bank, which was done using a counterfeit Louisiana driver's license in the 67-year-old woman's name. 

During their investigation, deputies said that the theft victim received a message from Capital One regarding her bank account; the woman did not have a Capital One account, and this made her uneasy, deputies wrote. Multiple accounts were opened in her name using the fraudulent identification, an arrest affidavit continued.

Khoseca Miller, 45, was eventually identified as a suspect in the theft and forgery. Deputies note that the Crowley woman was on probation for a previous forgery conviction and was able to be identified by her parole officer. 

Miller was arrested Tuesday on identity theft, theft, bank fraud, forgery, injuring public records, and unlawful production of fraudulent documents for identification purposes. She was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.
