Deputies arrest third man tied to deadly shooting in Ascension

DONALDSONVILLE - Three people, including a teenager, were arrested on suspicion of killing a man in Ascension Parish two weeks ago.

A sheriff's office spokesperson said the shooting was reported on West Second Street in Donaldsonville around 11:40 p.m. May 30. Deputies arrived at the neighborhood to find a man had been shot multiple times outside a home.

The victim, identified as 37-year-old Cedrick Mumphrey, was taken to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

June 14, the sheriff's office said a 17-year-old male and 21-year-old Johntez Ezeff of Donaldsonville have been arrested in Iberville. Two days later, on June 16, deputies announced the third suspect, 21-year-old Donovan Starks, had also been arrested.

All suspects were being booked on charges of second-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, illegal use of weapons, aggravated damage to property and simple criminal damage to property.

The 17-year-old male also faces an additional charge of illegal possession of a firearm by a juvenile.
