BATON ROUGE — East Baton Rouge City-Parish employees would face a premium increase of around 20% if the Metro Council approves an insurance plan for city-parish employees being introduced by Mayor-President Sid Edwards.

The meeting is set to be held at 4:30 p.m. or immediately following the 4 p.m. council zoning meeting on Wednesday. This comes after the Metro Council deferred a vote on the insurance plan last Wednesday.

Previous iterations of the plan suggested costs of HMO and POS insurance plans for employees would raise 25% while HDHP plans would be 35% more expensive; the most recent had HMO and POS plans increasing by 20%, with HDHP at 30%.

Under the latest proposal, city-parish employees could choose between multiple medical plan options, including a Community Blue Health Management Organization (HMO) or a Precision Blue HMO.

Both are narrow networks; Community Blue is mainly with the Baton Rouge General, and Precision Blue is with Our Lady of the Lake and other organizations. Edwards told WBRZ that if employees were to pick one of those two, they would have a reduction in the cost of their health insurance.
