DONALDSONVILLE — Construction has started on what is expected to become the world's largest low-carbon ammonia plant in Ascension Parish.

CF Industries, along with Japan's JERA and Mitsui, is developing the facility, called Blue Point One, at CF Industries' Blue Point Complex. WBRZ's Abigail Whitam visited the site.

Once complete, the plant is expected to produce about 1.4 million metric tons of low-carbon ammonia each year, making it the largest facility of its kind in the world.

CF Industries says its share of that production could support up to 6.7 million acres of corn production across the United States, producing about 1.2 billion bushels of corn.
