BATON ROUGE - A woman was arrested in an August murder on Tuesday, more than two months after a man was found shot to death on Monte Sano Avenue.

Baton Rouge police officers arrested 37-year-old Lacey Trumble for the murder of 42-year-old Sherman McElroy.

Officers found McElroy along Monte Sano Avenue near LA-61 around 9 a.m. on Aug. 27, 2023, with multiple gunshot wounds. Officers said McElroy died at the scene next to his car.

Moments before the shooting, witnesses saw McElroy in the car with a woman—later identified as Trumble. The witnesses told police they heard gunshots and then saw the woman run away from the car.

Officers searched McElroy's phone. They spoke with the person McElroy called shortly before his death. The person told officers while he was on the phone with McElroy, someone named Lacey was speaking as well.

Trumble sent the following messages to McElroy.

"Something bad going to happen hopefully you (know) that Sherman McElroy you (are) not going to f**k with nobody else in life I love you too f**king much so you leave someone like us haha have to Dieeeeee."

"You think you going to make it to live with her again nope not going to happen boo."

Trumble was arrested for second-degree murder and illegal use of weapons.

No information about what led to the murder has been released.
