Body trapped under boat recovered from river
BATON ROUGE - First responders were dispatched to a body found, trapped under a boat along the river side of the levee near Brightside Drive Wednesday morning.
The Corps of Engineers initially reported the find to the East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office around 9:20 a.m. while the Corps was working on the bridge.
EBRSO Dive Teams brought the remains to shore and the East Baton Rouge Coroner's Office took them to make further determinations about the circumstances, the sheriff's office says.
EBRSO spokesperson Casey Hicks said pulling the body out of the water was difficult due to strong currents.
"In this case, they said that this was one of the most difficult recoveries they've made to date," Hicks said.
The body has not been identified at this time. The coroner will conduct an autopsy tomorrow.
