BATON ROUGE — A Baton Rouge mother and father were arrested after a three-year-old was found unresponsive with severe injuries.

According to arrest records, on Tuesday, officers with the Baton Rouge Police Department responded to an unresponsive three-year-old girl with severe internal injuries and bruising on her body at a hotel on Gwenadelle Avenue. The child was later transported to a local hospital, where she was rushed into surgery.

According to officers, medical staff compared the child's injuries to what would be sustained in a severe vehicle crash.

The mother of the child, 23-year-old Ja'alyiah Mojica, allegedly told detectives that the child complained about stomach pains on Monday, originally attributed to pizza.

Mojica said that upon returning from work on Tuesday, the child had begun to vomit before becoming unresponsive and claimed not to know how the child's injuries occurred. She also claimed that the two were staying in a hotel room alone and that she had no other children.

Investigators at the scene of the initial call allegedly discovered 21-year-old Nylan Lott in the hotel room with a five-month-old boy. It was later learned that the boy was also her child and the pair was attempting to hide the child from investigators.

An investigation by the Department of Child and Family Services resulted in Mojica's arrest.

As DCFS gained custody of the five-month-old child, it was noted that the boy had numerous marks on his body consistent with adult-sized human teeth, according to arrest records.

Mojica was arrested for second-degree cruelty to juveniles, cruelty to juveniles and obstruction of justice. Lott was arrested for second-degree cruelty to juveniles and cruelty to juveniles.
