BATON ROUGE — Baton Rouge police are searching for a 20-year-old man wanted for attempted murder and rape after a woman says he beat and stabbed her multiple times inside a home on Geronimo Street.

According to police, Tyson Wright hit the victim in the head with a gun, beat her and then stabbed her seven or eight times in the chest with a pair of scissors. The woman says he later raped her.

She was treated for serious injuries at a hospital and then moved to another state to live with family. She did not make an in-person statement until recently, which is why Baton Rouge police issued the arrest warrant this week.

Wright is currently at large, but the WBRZ Investigative Unit learned he has been in police custody multiple times before.

In 2022, Dolores Jackson, a 36-year-old mother, was shot and killed by a stray bullet on Cadillac Street. A group of teenagers had been arguing when someone pulled out a gun.

Police arrested Wright, who was 15 at the time, for her murder, claiming he fired the shot. District Attorney Hillar Moore made the decision to charge him as an adult.

"My sister was killed, and she had nothing to do with what was going on," Dolores's sister, Gloria Jackson, said. "Dolores deserves justice."

However, a grand jury declined to indict him, and he was released. Two years later, Wright was arrested again for battery and strangulation of a dating partner, allegedly claiming he would kill the victim and her family.

He pleaded guilty to an amended charge of simple battery in 2025 and has been on probation since. He repeatedly failed to show up for court hearings, and a judge issued a bench warrant for his arrest in April, which he was never picked up on.

Jackson still believes Wright is responsible for her sister's death and says if the grand jury had charged him, he would not have been able to harm other families.

"Because he would have been in jail where he needs to be," Jackson said.
