GONZALES - All Ascension Parish Public Schools are expected to re-open Monday, the school district announced Friday (Sept. 10).

"All schools will return to normal schedules, and student dress code rules will be back in effect," the district said in a note emailed Friday afternoon.  Some campuses that were open this week were on alternate schedules and a relaxed dress code.

Normal operations will resume Monday, September 13.

"...Each of our schools has gone through extensive facility checks and cleanings," the district said.

Read the note from the district below:

Dear Ascension Public Schools Family,

Today was another excellent day of learning with 90% of our students attending in person and many more students participating in remote learning. Once again, I would like to express sincere gratitude to all of our teachers, staff, students, parents, and community for taking significant steps towards our recovery. We know navigating one-hour delayed starts these last two days have presented some challenges, but we are very grateful for your partnership.

Starting Monday, Sept. 13, 2021, all schools will return to normal schedules, and student dress code rules will be back in effect.

We plan to transition Donaldsonville High, Gonzales Middle, Lowery Elementary, and Lowery Middle schools back to in-person learning on Monday, Sept. 13, 2021, as well. Power was restored to all schools on Thursday, and each of our schools has gone through extensive facility checks and cleanings.

Due to moisture and mold issues at Sorrento Primary School, we have taken extra precautions and engaged both environmental engineers and professional cleaning services. We are confident their efforts have successfully mitigated those issues and the campus will be safe for students and staff to return for in-person learning on Monday, Sept. 13, 2021.

We know that for some families, there still remain challenges from Hurricane Ida. Rest assured, we want to work with you to overcome any barriers to student learning.
