11 people dead from heat-related causes, newest LDH data shows
BATON ROUGE — Eleven people have died from heat-related causes in Louisiana since the start of June, data from the Louisiana Department of Health released Thursday shows.
The 11 deaths are up from last week's statistic of eight heat-related deaths that WBRZ previously reported.
According to the data from LDH's heat-related deaths dashboard, nine of the reported deaths are people aged 65 or older, while one person who died was between 30 and 49 and another was between 50 and 64.
From 2023 through 2025, LDH says it recorded 172 heat-related deaths. People 65 and older accounted for 38% of those deaths while making up roughly 19% of the state's population.
