State Senator Troy Brown pleads not guilty to domestic abuse charge

GONZALES – State Senator Troy Brown pleaded not guilty to a domestic abuse battery charge on Tuesday and the judge presiding over the case announced that she will recuse herself.
Brown did not appear in court on Tuesday, however his attorney, Travis Turner, entered a not guilty plea on Brown's behalf. Brown was arrested in July for biting his wife's arm during a domestic dispute at his home in Geismar. Brown was released after posting his $50,000 bond.
Judge Marilyn Lambert of the Ascension Parish Court stated that she had a conflict and will recuse herself from the case, however she did not state why she will be doing so. Lambert said that she will send a letter to the Louisiana Supreme Court regarding the recusal and the court will then appoint another judge. Brown's attorney said the Judge is married to State Senator Eddie Lambert of Prairieville. Lambert happens to be one of Brown's colleagues.
Last month, Brown plead no contest to another domestic violence charge after he punched his long time girlfriend. It happened at the Hyatt Hotel in New Orleans last year after the Bayou Classic.
Brown's next court date is scheduled for Dec. 14.
