BATON ROUGE - Officers with the Baton Rouge Police Department arrested a man for allegedly shooting at a woman and her young son during a Nov. 3 domestic incident.

According to arrest documents, 28-year-old Dexter Allen was captured on accusations of shooting his female relative twice, once in the back and once in the leg, while her young son was present.

The woman told BRPD the incident unfolded in a residential area just south of Choctaw Drive, in the 2300 block of E. Belfair Drive after Allen allegedly took a gun that belonged to her.

The woman says she told Allen to return her gun and angered by this demand, he threatened to hurt the woman and her child.

She went on to tell police that when she went home, she saw Allen driving towards her in a gold vehicle, with its lights off, and from inside of the vehicle, he produced a gun and began shooting at her repeatedly.

As the woman sustained two gunshot wounds, she says Allen's gunfire also damaged a nearby vehicle.

According to a police report, the woman's son was unharmed during the incident.

By the time first responders and police arrived at the crime scene, Allen was gone, so a BRPD-led investigation went into effect, which resulted in Allen's arrest on Friday, Nov. 6.

As of Wednesday morning, Allen remains in East Baton Rouge Parish prison on charges that include attempted first-degree murder, assault by drive-by, and illegal use of a weapon.

His bond has been set at $280,000.
