Metro Council to discuss improvements to Raising Cane's River Center

BATON ROUGE - Tonight, the East Baton Rouge Metro Council will meet once again to tackle a lengthy list of items including a decision to make improvements to the Raising Cane's River Center.

A total of $750,000 has already been dedicated to the 41-year-old building, but the council has yet to sign off on appropriating the funds. That money came from the two percent hotel occupancy tax approved by voters in November 2017.

The two percent hotel occupancy tax, which went into effect in April 2018, is split between Visit Baton Rouge and the Raising Cane's River Center.

The funds are expected to go toward renovations to the floors in the exhibition halls, the gallery, and the lobby. Some roof work will also be done with the money, as well as smaller projects.

Back in March, the council approved $18 million to renovate the River Center's theatre. That money will go towards luxury boxes, better seating, elevators and more. That work is expected to take a year and a half.
