Former police chief makes claims of racism

BATON ROUGE- Allegations of racial misconduct hit a nerve here Monday when the fired police chief suggested there is a racial discrimination problem inside the police force, and not much is being done to fight it.
Dewayne White sited an example during a hearing with Mayor Kip Holden. White was defending his job, but was eventually fired by the mayor.
About the allegations, Holden dismissed them and said, "it would be kind of ludicrous for me as a black person to discriminate against people of the same color."
But, people have a different opinion.
"I can believe that the mayor was stepping in to do something that shouldn't have been done because he's not a big fan of the African-American community," said Donald Batiste, a community activist.
