Family members speak out after triple shooting
BATON ROUGE - Family members of men killed in a shooting this past weekend in Baton Rouge said they're struggling to recover from their losses.
Monique Knighten said "hurt" is the only word that comes to her mind right now. She lost her brother-in-law, 23-year-old Antoine Harris, a man she's known for most of her life and someone she considers a little brother.
"I raised him from nine years old and its like now he's gone," said Monique Knighten, victim's sister in law. "I've been around him for 16 years, and on this day that I haven't spoke to him is killing me."
Police said Harris, along with 24-year-old Kevin Ford and 25-year-old Fredrick Corner, were found shot in a driveway on the 2300 block of Jefferson Ave. around 1:00 a.m. Saturday. Detectives are looking into the killings, but didn't release any details about possible motives or suspects.
Now, Knighten is left to comfort Harris' 6-year-old daughter.
"That's a hurting feeling, and I feel for the other families just as well because as we're hurting they're hurting just as well," said Knighten as tears run on the side of her face..
Through her tears, Knighten said she's tired of the senseless killings for senseless reasons.
"It makes no sense that we have to bury him and go through all this, and he was just standing here with us," said Knighten. "It hurts."
The family is looking for donations to help pay for the burial. You can donate at A. Hamilton Platinum funeral service on Wooddale Blouvard.
