BATON ROUGE- Mothers Against Drunk Driving was founded in 1980 by a mother, whose daughter was killed by a drunk driver. For the last 35 years, they've been working to raise awareness and funds to eliminate drunk driving. MADD is the nation's largest non-profit organization working to protect families from drunk driving and underage drinking.

This morning, Kylie Dixon talked to some volunteers from MADD, to learn more about the organization's 5k walk and run, coming up this weekend.

MADD says, on average, one in three people will be involved in a drunk driving crash in their lifetime. Now the group is trying to stop those numbers. They're not just informing adults, but also people who are a few years away from the legal drinking age.

Kenya James is a MADD volunteer and a member of the group's Teen Influencer Group.

"Making good decisions while you're young can actually prepare you for when you're older," said James. "It builds you up as a person, and just allows you to branch out and do different things and open new doors for yourself."

The organization's 5K, Walk Like MADD, is being held this Saturday, May 2nd, at Highland Road Park in Baton Rouge. The event kicks off at 8:45 a.m. All of the money raised through the event goes to MADD educational and support programs.
