GROSSE TETE - Authorities in Iberville Parish said a woman drove off into a bayou in the Grosse Tete area and later died Friday.

 

Chief Deputy Stephen Engolio with the Iberville Parish Sheriff's Office said the wreck happened along LA 77 this morning in Grosse Tete. Engolio said 78-year-old Geneva Jenkins was driving in that area when she went off the road and into the bayou.

 

A passerby helped rescue her from the vehicle, and she was taken to a hospital where Engolio said she later died.

 

Engolio said they're investigating whether Jenkins had a medical condition or emergency which caused her to drive off the road. An autopsy will also be performed to determine the exact cause of death.
