BATON ROUGE - A Baton Rouge woman is behind bars after police say she left her children alone and without food for two days.

According to the affidavit, Baton Rouge Police officers responded to a public assist call to Frey Street around 5:30 p.m. on September 2.

Upon arrival, the children of Yolanda Givens told officers that their mother hadn't been home in two days and left no food in the house. Police found a crack pipe inside the residence which the children said their mother uses in front of them "all the time."

As officers continued talking with the victims, Givens arrived on the scene and admitted she had not been home in over 48 hours.

Givens was arrested and the children were sent to stay with a family member who said this was a normal occurrence.

Givens was later booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on charges of cruelty to juveniles and possession of drug paraphernalia.
