Vermillion Parish junior high teacher accused of rape

ABBEVILLE - A teacher in Vermillion Parish is behind bars after he was accused of rape.

James Harber is listed as a 7th grade teacher at J.H. Williams Middle School according to the school’s website. He was booked by Abbeville Police on two counts of second-degree rape and one count of first-degree rape.

An Abbeville PD spokesman said the department could not release further details, but did confirm that Harber was a teacher on leave and that the victims in both cases were minors.

Harper remains in Vermillion Parish Jail on $165,000 bond, according to jail records.
