US 190 bridge near Walker now open
WALKER – Traffic officials reopened US 190 bridge crossing Coyell Creek near Walker Sunday afternoon.
According to a statement, DOTD crews finished the final stretch of repairs Saturday night, with all lanes reopened Sunday, Sept. 11.
The bridge was closed after receiving damage due to rising floodwaters after August’s historic flooding. Traffic officials say the bridge was given high priority so it could be open for the first day of the delayed start of school in Livingston Parish.
DOTD crews added a new span to the western side of the bridge, driving new pilings to support the new span.
“The force of water is strong, but so is the commitment to public safety and public service," said DOTD Secretary, Dr. Shawn Wilson. "I couldn't be more proud of the DOTD bridge crews which included forces from the Hammond and Shreveport districts that worked tirelessly to reconstruct this bridge in time for students returning to school in Livingston Parish”
