UPDATE: LSU jumps out early on Rice in Regional Championship game
Baton Rouge - The LSU Tiger baseball team scored three runs in the top of the second inning and added another in the third to take an early 4-0 lead over Rice in the NCAA Regional Championship game in at Alex Box Stadium.
The Tigers need just one win to claim the Regional championship and host Super Regional play at Alex Box Stadium next weekend.
LSU manufactured their early runs as Greg Deichmann scored from third on a liner down the right field line from Josh Smith.
Michael Papierski sacrificed Smith home from third with a well placed bunt and then Jake Slaughter singled through the right side to score Beau Jordan from second base.
The Rice Owls advanced to Sunday night's game by beating Southeastern University earlier in the afternoon.
The SEC Network is broadcasting the game that started at 8:05 pm with weather threatening to affect play at some point in the evening.
