HAMMOND - State Police say a pedestrian was killed on US 190 in Hammond just after midnight on Thursday.

State Police identified the victim as 23-year-old April Lashawn Washington, of Hammond, on Friday.

State Police say a pickup truck was traveling westbound on US 190 with the pedestrian walking eastbound in the westbound lane when she was hit by the truck. The fatal accident happened near the intersection of Shadow Creek Drive and US 190 in Hammond.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene by the Tangipahoa Parish Coroner’s Office.

Blood samples were taken from the pedestrian and the driver of the truck, 31-year-old Michael Drake, of Albany. Those samples will be submitted to the LSP Crime Lab for toxicology analysis. Troopers do not suspect Drake was impaired at the time of the crash.

The investigation is ongoing. Troopers said it is the second fatal pedestrian crash investigated by LSP in less than a week.
