SLIDELL – One man spent Thanksgiving in jail after police say that he purposely crashed into a store to steal alcohol.

Around 5:45 a.m. on Thursday, a passerby reported that a vehicle drove through the glass entrance of a store, Jack's Beverage on Old Spanish Trail in Slidell.

When officers arrived on scene, they found the front of the store destroyed, but the vehicle was no longer there. Officers reviewed the store's surveillance video to find that a gold Ford Explorer purposely drove through the front of the store, reversed and then stopped in the parking lot. The man then ran into the store and seconds later ran out with bottles of alcohol.

Officers found a vehicle that matched the suspect's vehicle parked near Guzman Street. Officers spoke to 46-year-old Alfred Nevis, who stated that he was the owner of the vehicle. Nevis admitted to driving into the store and stated that he battles with an addition to crack cocaine. Nevis said that the bottles of alcohol he stole from the store were traded for drugs before he returned home.

Nevis was charged with burglary of a business, criminal damage and possession of drug paraphernalia.
