BATON ROUGE- The family of one of the Southern University students killed during a shooting at The Cottages Apartment Complex has held a march on Thursday in honor of her slain daughter.

The mother of LaShuntae Benton, Theresa Tillman, and friends and family held peaceful march and rally on Thursday. The march called #JUSTICEFORTAE'BEE is to bring awareness to the fact that her daughter's case is still unresolved and also to help bring awareness to “Stop Black on Black Violence.” T-shirts were worn sporting the slogan at the rally.

"It's basically a critique of the culture," said Tillman. "Take a second to think of your actions before you do your actions because it cost me my child's life," she added.

Police arrested 22-year-old Ernest Felton, a former Southern football player, on charges based on gunfire he traded with another man, 24-year-old Brandon Henderson, who was wounded in the shooting. However, no one has been charged in the deaths of Benton and Annette January.

Benton was a sophomore student at Southern University, when she and January, were caught in the crossfire of a shooting that took place in April at the Cottages Apartments that involved Felton and Henderson.

Benton was a Lake Charles native and a sophomore therapeutic recreation and leisure studies major. She was also an athletic trainer.
