BATON ROUGE - All proceeds from the 2016 Shaquille O’Neal and Johnny Jones Golf Classic will be donated to area flood relief efforts, according to the university on Tuesday.

The tournament will take place on Sept. 16 at Carter Plantation in Springfield. The entry fee for the event is $1,000 per team or $250 per golfer. Hole sponsorships are also available for $500.

“There were some questions as to whether or not we should even have the tournament this year because of the flooding,” Jones said. “I talked to Shaquille and we decided not only should we still have the tournament, but we should donate all the proceeds to help the people affected by the flood.”

While both O’Neal and Jones have held golf tournaments in the past to benefit local projects, this will be the first time Shaq and Jones have come together to host an event of the sort.

There will be two tee times with the morning group going off at 8:00 a.m., followed by the afternoon flight at 1:30 p.m.

“We need to fill this thing up,” Jones said. “We have a real opportunity to help some people with the money we raise at the tournament. So if you were thinking about playing, go ahead and get signed up soon.”
