DENHAM SPRINGS - Authorities said they're actively following up on tips in the search for a work release inmate who left his job site earlier this week in Livingston Parish.

A spokesperson for the Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office said they and members of the Walker Police Department searched an area along Hwy. 190 near Burgess Friday for 30-year-old Kevin Whetstone. The spokesperson said they received a tip Whetstone was in the area, but did not locate him.

The East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office said Whetstone disappeared Tuesday evening when a relative drove him away from his job site. Deputies said Whetstone was working offshore on a tugboat and left after the boat docked that night, calling a relative for a ride and telling them he was allowed to leave.

Whetstone is serving time on a cocaine possession charge from Livingston Parish. Anyone who knows where he can be found should call EBRSO at (225) 389-5000.
